NELSPRUIT – The MEC of community safety has called for an urgent investigation from police following a collision on the N4 that claimed six lives on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred between Elandshoek and Ngodwana when the bakkie the six people were travelling in collided with an oncoming truck. None of the truck’s three passengers were injured.
The MEC Mr Vusi Shongwe also called for increased vigilance from motorists, warning drivers about the dangers of negligence and not obeying the rules of the roads.
Police said that the bakkie, travelling in the direction of Pretoria, crossed over into the lane of the oncoming truck which swerved to the right in an attempt to avert a collision. The bakkie allegedly also swerved back into its lane and the two vehicles collided.
Shongwe sent his condolences to the bereaved families. “Our thoughts are with the families in these difficult times.” The matter is being investigated by police.
