Hawks head case postponed again

The fraud case against Maj Gen Simon Mapyane has been postponed until March 27.

NELSPRUIT – The head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga briefly appeared in the district court here this morning. Maj Gen Simon Mapyane stands accused of falsifying travel claims to the value of R18 753,63.

He was first arrested in May for allegedly submitting a false travel claim. A second charge of fraud against him has since been added to the roll. Both charges relate to travel claims submitted in 2010.

In October, Gen Riah Phiyega, national police commissioner, announced that she had given instructions for internal disciplinary processes to be initiated against Mapyane.

During his court appearance this morning, Mapyane appeared very briefly for the case to be postponed until March 27.
