Lowveld learners excel in Nelspruit Eisteddfod English category

Schools from across the region bused young performers in for a week of poetry, drama and creative expression at Communio Church

Lowveld learners pulled out all the stops in the English category of the Nelspruit Eisteddfod from August 10 to 15. Participants showcased their talent on stage at Communio Church through carefully selected poems and performances.

From poems about smartphones to the classic Dr Seuss, attendees were fully entertained during the week. Besides participating Mbombela schools, buses filled with learners from across the Lowveld arrived to celebrate drama, showing communities that the arts remain highly valued.

Excitement among learners was at an all-time high, and the results reflected exactly that. With 1 163 entries, a total of 364 A++, 401 A+, 261 A, 103 B+, 32 B and two Cs were earned.

“Every learner who participated should be incredibly proud of themselves. Their courage, passion and dedication made this week one we will remember. It is a privilege to be part of something that can make such a meaningful difference in a child’s life,” said Quewlynn Bhana, head of the Nelspruit Eisteddfod instrumental and marketing division.

According to Bhana, the Nelspruit Eisteddfod is about creating opportunities for children to discover their talents, find their voices, express themselves and realise just how much they are capable of. Those moments of confidence, joy and personal growth are the achievements that truly matter and that they will carry with them long after this week is over.
