KAMAQHEKEZA – Last week Friday the MEC for provincial department of Human Settlement, Mr.Andrias Gamede, handed over 275 official title deeds to residents from Orlando in Komatipoort.
Speaking at the Gamede said that government has been mandated to the department of Human Settlement to fast track formalization of people having ownership of the properties they live on.
“Government has said the department of human settlement has to reinforce efforts that people receive official letters that allow them to be the owners of the land they live on. That is why today we are gathered in this fashion, we have brought letters that in the past were called titles, which gave the bearer legal ownership of the property they occupied,”explained Gamede.
Gamede said that by issuing these title deeds it is another way in which government is redistributing land to the people.
“We know it has been 101 years that people were disposed of land, so with this initiative of issuing title deeds it is another way of giving back land to people because once a person has received the title deed they have the right that should they wish to sell the land they can do so freely,” Gamede elaborated.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries Ms Evans Themba conveyed their gratitude by saying “We as the residents of Orlando would like express our gratitude today, because we arrived in Orlando and stayed there under unfavourable conditions, but today we are owners of land. We would also like to thank the Nkomazi municipality for taking care of us for all this time,”
Gumede handed over a box containing the title deeds to the executive mayor of Nkomazi, Cllr Thulisile Khoza, who felicitated distributions accordingly.
