Const Nompilo Qwabe of the Schoemansdal Police Station responded to the questions of Corridor Gazette, “It is allegations and police did not witness the incident but were only informed that two men had drowned.”

Regarding community members enforcing and taking the law into their own hands, Qwabe said, “The police request people not to do this, no matter what the consequences are. They are not assisting in fighting crime. We also request the community to report any criminal activities so that cases can be opened and investigated.”

The bodies of the two men were recovered last Tuesday and Wednesday. Their funerals took place over the weekend.

At the time of going to press, the names of the deceased were still unknown.
