Driver has a flipping chance against warthog

MARLOTH PARK – This morning a woman sustained minor injuries when her car overturned on Olifant Road as she attempted to evade a warthog. The victim was transported to a hospital in Nelspruit.

According to a posting on Facebook by Ms Meandra Smit, she heard the screeching sound of tyres on tar just before 07:00 and came upon the accident as she was driving to work.

“It happened this morning before seven, we heard the slamming of brakes. I was on my way to work, and drove past the accident. The female driver is okay, she’s being taken to hospital in Nelspruit, and the car is being taken away as we speak. It’s not certain how fast she was driving, but there was a warthog in the road and she tried to evade it.

Unfortunately she overturned her car in the process. A big thank you toWA en Genote Security who was first on the scene, they helped the woman out of the car, and call for emergency assistance, good work!” read Smit’s Facebook post.

In the past residents have expressed their concern regarding the lack of road law enforcers as a zebra was killed last month by a motorist allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Mr Cyril Repinga, spokesman for the Nkomazi Local Municipality explained to Corridor Gazette that traffic officers work on shift lists which indicate where they will be stationed for the day.

He said, “The park should have traffic officers enforcing the law on a regular basis.” He also added that he would inquire about the regularity of their work in the area.
