Security companies and police had a busy couple of days thwarting crime in the area, with several people being arrested and goods confiscated.
On Thursday, February 20, a man was arrested by Bossies Community Justice (BCJ), J&M Security and the anti-fraud unit of Standard Bank. This happened shortly after he purchased tyres to the value of R10 400 from Koenic Wheel Warehouse with a debit card not belonging to him. The same person apparently tried to buy them the previous day, but the transaction was declined. The suspect fled before the staff could retain the card. After he was apprehended, he was handed over to SAPS detectives.
The next day, a motorist was robbed on the Sabie/Lydenburg Road by three thugs with rocks, knives and a panga. This happened after the driver pulled off the main road onto a gravel one. The suspects stole the victim’s cellphone, money and clothes but did not harm him. BCJ advised motorists not to stop on this road near the N4 flyover.
On February 22 three people were arrested and a large amount of dagga confiscated at a Brondal compound in a combined operation between Bossies, Hi-Tech Security and the drug task team of the SAPS. This was part of raids conducted all over Nelspruit until the early hours of the morning.
BCJ and Hi-Tech were part of a high-speed chase on February 23. A driver lost control of his car and sideswiped a Hi-Tech vehicle near Town Lodge, then fled the scene. The chase ended in Nelsville, when six suspects abandoned the vehicle. One of them was caught and arrested.
