Flood update: Three bodies retrieved from rivers

We haven't been summoned to more scenes yet, but we fear it may be the calm before the storm. We expect incidents to flare up at 17:00 when people will go home after work

NELSPRUIT – Police divers have retrieved the bodies of three people that have drowned in the Highveld after heavy rains, including that of an 11-year-old girl.

Capt Pottie Potgieter and his wife, Capt Joey, are currently enroute to their base in White River after having retrieved three bodies in Amsterda, Greylingstad and Volksrust, respectively.

Although Nelspruit hasn’t received any rain since 05:00 this morning, Potgieter said that they have encountered heavy rains on the roads to the Highveld and back.

“We haven’t been summoned to more scenes yet, but we fear it may be the calm before the storm. We expect incidents to flare up at 17:00 when people will go home after work,” he warned and urged people to not cross strong flowing rivers.
