Serious accident leaves four dead and one injured

Another accident on the KaMagugu Road has cost four more people their lives.

KAMAGUGU – An accident near the bridge caused the death of four people and left one seriously injured on Saturday morning. According to the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the driver of a VW Polo sedan hit the back of a bakkie, lost control after which the vehicle hit a tree. The occupants of the bakkie were not seriously injured.

This followed an accident on February 22, in which three people died on the KaMagugu Road following a head-on collision. MEC Mr Vusi Shongwe expressed his concern about the number of accidents occurring as a result of negligence. He called for an increase in the visibility of law enforcement on all the roads where a high incidence of accidents was recorded. He also believed that these were a sign that motorists’ behaviour was a contributing factor in tad crashes.

“We must deal harshly with motorists who defy the law. The department of justice must assist us by giving all law breakers harsh and long sentences to show that we are serious about road safety,” said Shongwe.

He sent his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
