
NELSPRUIT – Delta EMD is closing down. The JSE-listed company recently announced a board decision to limit production at its Nelspruit operation.
Delta EMD, which specialises in the manufacture and supply of electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD), which is used in the production of primary alkaline batteries recently made the announcement on its website.
One of the company’s two production lines is expected to be idled by the end of the month. Over the course of the year, operations will be discontinued.
“The board has taken the decision, subject to approval by the company’s shareholders, to discontinue operations in a phased and orderly manner during 2014 and to realise value for the company’s assets during 2014 and 2015,” the company said in a statement.
