Education MEC congratulates Hazyview graduates

The MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, attended a graduation ceremony at Hazyview Digital Learning Centre (HDLC) on Friday, March 14.

The MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, attended a graduation ceremony at Hazyview Digital Learning Centre (HDLC) on Friday, March 14.

The event, hosted by the Good Work Foundation, (GWF), celebrated the graduation of 49 adult students who received their International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL).This is an internationally recognised tertiary qualification that represents skills proficiency across various ICT disciplines.

“Government alone cannot take the children of this province and this country to the heights that we want them to go to, so we partner with businesses, community-based organisations and non-government organisations” said Mhaule. “We want to appreciate institutions like the Good Work Foundation that assists the department and the government. Thank you for the good work that you are doing for the children of Hazyview and South Africa.’”

“When they arrive here, the majority of our students have never operated a desktop computer before” said Kate Groch, Good Work Foundation CEO. “Our job at GWF is to connect young learners to the languages of the world: ‘digital’ and ‘English’. Not only do we focus on equipping learners with skills, we are also firm believers in plugging learners into the possibilities of online learning. “

The MEC presented Groch and GWF with a certificate of appreciation for their outstanding contribution to the emancipation of the youth in Hazyview and surrounding areas on behalf of Mpumalanga’s Department of Education.

Jeffrey Braam Singane was awarded the top ICDL student award with an average of 90 per cent across the following modules: word processing; spread sheets; database; presentation; and information and communication.

Shearer Ngobeni, a GWF scholarship student attending Southern Cross Schools in Hoedspruit, received the inaugural Leanna Knopik Cup for his exemplary attitude to his work and his peers.
