The traffic department recently noticed that several so-called legal special and temporary permits had been incorrectly issued and were therefore illegal.
In one incident a traffic officer noticed a temporary permit on a vehicle incorrectly issued for 29 days from February 12 to May 12. The permit was confiscated and the driver charged with driving an unlicensed vehicle
When obtaining a temporary or special permit for your vehicle ensure that it is correctly issued to avoid fines or confiscation of the permit.
A special one must be issued in red and is valid for only three days. This must also clearly stipulate the number of passengers and/or number of goods being transported.
A temporary permit is valid for 21 days and must be issued in black ink.
In both cases the days are counted from the date of issue and don’t exclude weekends or public holidays. If a special permit is granted on a Friday it is valued only until the end of Sunday.
