WATERVAL BOVEN- Enraged Emakhazeni Muncipal workers disrupted electrical supply in Waterval Boven and Machadodorp earlier today.
This after they vandalised the municipal offices in Belfast yesterday by smashing the windows with rocks. According to Ms Amanda Botha, DA councilor in the area, the workers are unsatisfied because they haven’t received safety gear like special uniforms to perform their duties.
They proceeded to break electrical structures in Waterval Boven at 03:50 and the town has had no power since. The town is largely dependent on tourists for an income, but a resident added that the roads remain open for traffic and that travellers don’t need to fear for their safety at this stage.
However, Botha added that, “We have had no service delivery in these areas for some time now and it is posing a serious health risk at institutions like the hospital and old age home as no carbage removal is taking place. The workers say they are prepared to strike and disrupt services for six more weeks, until their demands are met.”
“They have gone wild,” she added. Lowvelder tried to obtain comment from the municipality, but there was not answer at its offices.
