MECKLENBURG – A man was recently arrested after he allegedly tried to bribe a Mecklenburg police officer on the R37 road, near Driekop.
Spokesman for the station, Const Elias Setati said Kenneth Matlaka (27) approached a dedicated young constable trying to convince him to stop investigating his reckless and negligence driving case.
“Matlaka thought that our police officers were corrupt but he was wrong. Our officers are dedicated to their jobs and never take bribes from people who broke the law,” he said.
Setati also warned criminals to refrain from offering bribes to law enforcers as they will be locked up. The suspect appeared briefly in the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on April 4 and his case was postponed to an unknown date. He was remanded in custody.
