ANC keeps its majority in Mpumalanga

The traditional ANC stronghold of Mpumalanga is seeing a new political player emerge in the EFF, while COPE falls away.

NELSPRUIT – Preliminary results available after 90 per cent of the votes for provincial government had been counted this afternoon showed the ANC retained its majority with 78 per cent. The DA got 11 per cent and the new kid on the block, the EFF, took six per cent of the vote.

It showed that COPE, which won a seat in the provincial legislature here five years ago, had fallen off the grid.

Final results out in municipalities showed 79,9 per cent of the votes in Umjindi Local Municipality went to the ANC with 11,7 per cent going to the DA and the EFF receiving 6,3 per cent.
In Thaba Chweu Municipality, the ANC received 68,9 per cent of the votes cast, followed by the DA with 19,4 per cent and the EFF with 7,8 per cent.

The premier, Mr David Mabuza Mabuza said the ruling party would continue where it left off. The DA’s Mr Anthony Benadie said the party was humbled by the support they had received across the province. Mr Collen Sedibe, the premier candidate for the EFF, said his party had done well to reached every sector of voter.
