BURGERSFORT – The local SAPS recently held another crime awareness campaign at Mangabane Primary School. It was aimed at combating bullying at the school and to warn learners about age restrictions in TV programmes, especially in movies.

Const Victoria Maluleke and Const Jury Semono spearheaded the campaign; they told the learners to report anyone who sells pornographic movies to the young ones.

“We realised that if adults sell the pornographic material to the learners, this might lead them to commit illegal deeds such as rape and to fall prey to early pregnancy. This will dampen their future ambitions,” said Maluleke.

After the address by the police, the learners were asked questions on the topics that were presented, this was done to verify if they indeed listened to the cops’ presentations. Those who gave the right answers were rewarded with goodies such as pens and rulers.

The Burgersfort SAPS said it would continue to visit the schools in order to curb crime. Another campaign will be held on June 6at Twinkle Kids crèche next to Calvin College. The theme of the day will be “break silence on child abuse”.
