Although Eskom confirmed it had enough the necessary capacity to ensure that the daytime electricity demand was being met, the utility warned that if peak-time electricity usage was not reduced, rotational power cuts would have to be implemented.
Barbertonians have up to now been very fortunate in this regard, as no load-shedding has been introduced to date. However, until the end of August / beginning of September, residents of the whole of Umjindi are requested to cooperate with the local electricity department to minimise power cuts.
The director of electrical services, Jaco Landsberg said, “Between 18:00 and 21:00 we request that geysers and other unnecessary electrical appliances be switched off. Until the end of August, power cuts – without prior notice – are possible at these times and at different intervals. We appreciate your cooperation in this regard.”
