This award-winning film staring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan is about Philomena Lee’s search for her child. She fell pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952 and was sent to the convent of Roscrea to be looked after as a “fallen woman”. When he grows to a toddler, the nuns take him to America to be adopted.

After searching for her son for 50 years, she meets Martin Sixmith, a world-weary journalist, who is as cynical as Philomena is trusting. They set off on a journey together that will not only reveal the extraordinary story of Philomena’s son, but also the powerful bond that grows between Philomena and Martin.
