Local squash player, Nothando Ntimane, who is now based in Gauteng after she was awarded a scholarship at Menlo Park High School in Pretoria, has been selected to represent South Africa in Malaysia next year.
This came after her participation in the the Inter Provincial Squash championship last month in East London. She represented her adopted province, North Gauteng, at the event. Only the five best players from each province were selected to form part of the annual tournament in which Ntimane played in position one for Northern Gauteng.
The main aim of this tournament was to select both the best province and national top ten.She played against girls from KZN, Central Gauteng, Border, Boland, Western Cape, Free State and SACF (North West, Limpompo, Mpumalanga and South West District.
Her team finished fourth. She further rose to the occasion by being selected in position five for the SA team.
A number of tournaments were also taken into consideration before selecting the team, such as the results of the Hi-Tec SA Schools Closed Tournament and the Bloemfontein Open.
“I would like to thank Barberton Ford for making it possible for me to attend all the national tournaments which made me realise my goal of representing South Africa. Mr Jean Coetzee and his team at Barberton Ford had been supporting me before I was a national asset and I therefore would like them to know that I’m thrilled by their ongoing support. I’m also looking forward to attend the prestigious British Junior Open next year in Britain,” Ntimane said.
