MASHISHING – The sound of roaring engines echoed through the township on Saturday when bikers from Lydenburg, Mbomble, Pretoria and Johannesburg made their way to the community hall.

According to Mr Mahlatse Sithole, also known as Sweet Lips, the bikers decided to donate their 67 minutes on Mandela Day to the local elderly and orphans. Sithole, a local rider, said that they did this every year. “Because most of us had to work on Friday, we decided to do our bit for Mandela Day on Saturday. We identified 13 orphans in need of school uniforms and will hand it over to them today. We are also supplying the elderly with warm blankets. We try to get everyone involved and the event is growing each year. This year we have also arranged for a stage for local performers to show off their singing or rapping talent.”
The mayor of Thaba Chweu Municipality, Mr Michael Ncongwane escorted the bikers from the Heads Shopping centre to the local community hall. Upon arrival spectators from all over came to have a glimpse of these iron horses. The men in leather then gave a spectacular performance orchestrating a song using only the roar of the engines and horns.
