Innibos committed to South Africa
Steve Hofmeyr’s decision to sing Die Stem at year’s Innibos, led to a discussion between the office of the MEC for the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation (DCSR) and the organisers on Thursday.
MBOMBELA – Steve Hofmeyr’s decision to sing Die Stem at year’s Innibos, led to a discussion between the office of the MEC for the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation (DCSR) and the organisers on Thursday.
MEC Ms Norah Mahlangu-Mabena said her department wanted to establish exactly why the artist used this platform to sing the song.
Ms Sandra Jacobs, communications manager for Innibos, said the song was not part of the planned programme of the concert.
“The management would not have approved the inclusion of this song in the programme, because we realise that there is sensitivity around the singing thereof.
Jacobs said Innibos is an arts festival with mainly Afrikaans content. “We are proudly part of the new South Africa and committed to the promotion of arts and culture in our beautiful country.”
