MAKUBU – The Mecklenburg police have arrested Ms Mumsy Mohlala (31) for allegedly assaulting a 43-year-old woman from the same village over the weekend.

According to a media statement from the station, the suspect found the victim in her yard at midnight on July 19 and started to assault her as she claimed that she had locked the gate and accused her of trespassing.

According to other sources known by this paper, the suspect accused the victim of being a witch. Spokesman for the station, Const Mmatlou Elias Setati, confirmed that the case later became a murder case, after the victim died while receiving treatment at the Mecklenburg Hospital.

The suspect is currently out on R500 bail and is charged with the intention of grievous bodily harm. Mohlala will appear again in the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on August 18. The Mecklenburg police issued a stern warning against community members who take the law into their own hands.

In Leboeng a 38-year-old man was arrested for raping a seven-year-old girl of Gamabelane Village. According to the Leboeng SAPS spokesman, Const Maimela Andrew Sibatana, the victim’s aunt reported the matter to the police after noticing signs of sexual abuse.

It is alleged the victim was playing in the suspect’s kraal when she was called to his room where he had raped her. It is not yet known when the suspect will appear in the Leboeng Magistrate’s Court.
