Man kidnapped in broad daylight

A businessman was kidnapped in broad daylight in Inhambane on Monday morning.

MAPUTO – A businessman was kidnapped in broad daylight in Inhambane on Monday morning.
According to reports on social media, a well-known businessman, Mr Gindolo Feragem, was apparently abducted by unknown assailants outside his business.

It later emerged that Feragem was apparently seen in Tofo with police.

At the time of going to print no official comment had been received.

This after there had been nearly 80 cases of abductions in the country, with not one of them being solved before ransom demands had been made.

Chabir Coelho, who was apparently connected to alleged kidnapping mastermind, Nini Satar, was gunned down two weeks ago. Media reported that Coelho was about 100 metres from his home when he was intercepted by a grey Runx Toyota at the entrance of a parking lot.

Media reported that he had been involved in the rehabilitation works of Maputo’s Lhanguene Cemetary, which were promoted by Satar from jail, but later cancelled by the municipality due to the
scandal aroused.

Satar is serving a life sentence for the murder of investigative journalist Carlos Cardoso.
This followed the murder of Vincente Ramaya in a Maputo neighbourhood, and of Satar’s brother Ayoob, who was killed in Pakistan a month ago.

A source told Lowvelder the kidnappings apparently occurred to people who had loaned money from Satar before he was arrested.

A new bill was rushed through parliament last year due to the spate of kidnappings that had occurred in Mozambique since 2011.
