Suspect apprehended with rhino horn in bag

TONGA – During a sting operation on August 21, a Mozambican national was arrested for possession of rhino horn.
Police spokesman Brig Selvy Mohlala said, “The sting operation followed after police received information about a man in possession of rhino horn in a house in the kaHoyi Village. Upon arrival, police spotted two men, one of whom fitted the description they were given and was carrying a bag.”
According to Mohlala the other suspect fled the scene and is still at large.
“Police found the stolen rhino horn in the bag. The suspect would remain in custody and appear in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on August 27.”
Corridor Gazette asked Mohlala if the suspect was in the country legally, however, he was not sure of the suspect’s migrant status.
At the time of going to print he was unavailable for comment.
