
MBOMBELA – Five people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a newborn baby from Rob Ferreira Hospital on August 30. However, the baby hasn’t been found yet.
Messers Ananias Ndzimba (27), Julius Sithole (25), Phineas Sono (35), Aaron Moyo Nyoni (20) and Ms Portia Ncube (31) were arrested on Friday and Saturday at different hideouts. According to provincial police spokesman Brig Selvy Mohlala, Ndzimba and Sithole, who are Mozambican nationals, were arrested in Mbombela’s CBD on Friday.
Sono, Nyoni and Ncube were arrested the following day at Mataffin. The suspects appeared in court on Monday and have remanded in custody until their next appearance on September 16. They are being charged with kidnapping and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Provincial commissioner, Lt Genl Thulani Ntobela, commended the “high level of professionalism, determination and dedication displayed by detectives in how they handled this matter”. He added that he has hope and trust that the detectives will find the baby and reunite him with her parents.
