Murder suspects granted bail

Three of the four men accused of murdering local farmer Mr Riaan van den Berg have been granted bail.

MALALANE – Three of the four men accused of murdering local farmer Mr Riaan van den Berg have been granted bail.

The three suspects each received bail of R1 500, while the other accused would remain in police custody.

According to the magistrate, they had been awarded bail under two conditions, to be present at every court hearing set from here on, and to report to Matsulu Police Station twice a week.

“If this is not complied with, your bail will be revoked with immediate effect.” the magistrate said. Earlier this year on May 30 the late Mr Van den Berg was found with arms and legs bound together in his farm homestead.

Since then family and friends of the victim had been waiting for the High Court trial to commence. The date will, however, be determined in the next period court appearance on October 29.
