Accused’s absence in court reveals his arrest by the Hawks

Man charged of robbery allegedly involved in April's R 87 million SBV cash centre robbery.

A local man who was due to appear on a robbery charge in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Thursday failed to attend court proceedings because he was arrested on another charge by the Hawks on Wednesday.
Capt Paul Ramaloka, spokesman for the Hawks, has confirmed that the man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Mbombela and that he is currently being detained in eMalahleni.
Lowvelder has received confirmation from a member of the Middleburg Community Policing Forum that the detained man was arrested in connection with the robbery of an SBV cash centre in eMalahleni that took place in April.  R87 million was stolen during the robbery.
The case against the accused and his three co-accused in the Mbombela Magistrate’s court has been postponed to October 13.
