Nkomazi Pick ‘n Pay and Unatsi foundation for orphans team up

The Nkomazi Pick n Pay, and the Unatsi foundation for orphans, a local charity organisation, have become the extended families of some the destitute people in this village.

KAMAQHEKEZA – The Nkomazi Pick n Pay, and the Unatsi foundation for orphans, a local charity organisation, have become the extended families of some the destitute people in this village.

This came to light at the two stakeholders’ annual handover of food parcel and relief efforts on Friday September 5.

The ninth parcels handover was held at Ingwenyama Primary School.

“After my daughter passed away, and left me with her five children, life started to be difficult for me. Feeding the children was a challenge. Little did I know that I had relatives such as Pick n Pay, and the Unatsi Foundation, but as from today I know that I am not alone and have extended family members.” said Ali Mkuphe, a 64-year-old grandfather of five orphans.

The Unatsi foundation for orphans was established in 2006 by Ingwenyama Primary School teacher, Ms Nokuhlupheka Sibiya, when she saw the need to help orphaned children in the school.

Every September she would donate food parcels and clothing items to the needy leaners through the organisation.

In 2008 when Pick n Pay opened its doors at the Nkomazi Plaza, in Naas, the retail store partnered with the Unatsi Foundation, and has been contributing towards aiding the lives of local families.

According to the store manager, Mr Isaac Nchabeleng, no matter how little the store contributes, it still comes from the heart.

He said, “The community that you live in is part of you, so I do everything in my capacity to provide for my community. If you want a good business you should have good relationship with the people in the area.”

Sibiya said she couldn’t believe that it’s been 9 years since she started the organisation, and emotionally thanked everyone for their support and encouraged others to join in.

“Sharing is key, if you have something, why not share it with someone who doesn’t have it?” she asked. “If we all have a giving heart and love, we will have fewer or non-orphans in our communities because they will be adopted or taken care of.”

Anyone who wishes to make a donation or contribute to the Unatsi foundation for orphans, should call Sibiya on 082-863-3381.
