BELFAST – The local SAPS have initated a manhunt for a suspect who is fast becoming a maverick at escaping from captivity. The alleged suspect, known as Piet Mosehla, seems to have collected a handful of misdemeanours.
He is accused of allegedly murdering a worker at Elandskloof Farm in Belfast on August 30 this year. Mosehla fled the scene, but was arrested the same day.
He has also been previously detained by Belfast SAPS on another murder charge committed at Laersdrift, in November 2012. According to Sgt Willie de Waal, the suspect managed to make a run for it before the details was recorded in the registers. It is not known how he managed to escape. No case was opened.
The wanted criminal seems to be rather slippery by nature, not only changing his identity but also his appearance. The suspect had long dreadlocks, but when he was arrested by the local police, his hair was short, and the police reported he had then changed his name to Petros Mamaru. Witnesses also said he had two front top teeth missing, and that’s how he was found.
Mosehla’s criminal record and cellular phone records were obtained, and through that, his South African identity number could be verified, as he did not have his SA ID book. According to records he had given several birth dates, and three names and surnames have been detailed. His popular alias however, is Petros Mamaru.
On October 4 this year, he again escaped from the holding cells at Belfast SAPS, together with two other inmates, Skhumbuso Mthethwa and Lucky Sibuyi.
They cut the iron bars of the exercising room. On October 9, one suspect, Shumbuso Mthethwa was rearrested by Const David Sello of the Belfast detective branch.
Petros Mamaru and Lucky Sibuyi are both still at large.
It is believed that Mamaru is in the Roossenekal/Steelpoort area.
Currently Mamaru, who is wanted for double murder and double rape, reportedly now has a moustache and beard.
He was previously also arrested in the area of Roossenekal/Steelpoort.
