PLASTON – To motivate the students of AA Kumalo Primary School in Ka-Bokweni for the exams, Huizemark has donated a brand-new name signboard to the school. It was unveiled on Wednesday.

The school’s old board had fallen off about six months ago. Since the school is struggling financially and has to rely on government funds, it could not afford a new one.“We love the new board and are very grateful,” says principal Mr Mashinga Irvin. “Now people no longer have to guess whether we are a school. The board says it all.”

Mr Harvest Phiri, estate agent at Huizemark, saw the fallen board when he was working in the area six months ago. He mentioned it to fellow estate agent, Ms Susan Cilliers and Huizemark decided to donate a new name board. The new board was erected a month ago and unveiled on Wednesday. Huizemark also treated learners to an exam preparation gift pack, consisting of a small bucket, which can be used as a stationery holder, containing a ruler, a sticker and sweets.

“The children need to understand how important education is,” said Cilliers. “They need to want to study hard to be able to do something with their life.”

AA Khumalo Primary School considers itself a health promoting school. “Learners are taught to wash their hands after going to the bathroom and before eating,” says Irvin. “We educate the children about the importance of health and hygiene.”

The school wants to build a new kitchen but Irvin says they are not financially able to. “We would like donations and sponsorships to build a kitchen where we can make food for the students.” Readers who would like to donate can contact principal Masinga Irvin at 073-225-7357.
