Sehlaku learners dress to impress for their matric dance
The school also invited motivational speakers who guided the learners with tips on preparing for the exams. The learners vowed to do well.
BURGERSFORT – It’s that time of the year when matric pupils bid farewell to their classmates. With this in mind, Sehlaku Secondary School held its matric dance for the class of 2014.
The event was organised at the magnificent Jorge resort, on the evening of October 18. It also served as a prize-giving ceremony for the year.
The debs ball as it is known, was attended by more than 90 pupils who arrived with their partners. Teachers and SGB members were also present, acting as father figures for the grade 12s.
It seemed as if the day had been planned years back. Some of them divulged to this reporter that they had spent more than R2 000 on their outfits.
The young ladies were elegantly clad in fancy evening dresses, complemented by their stilettos and their hairstyles were out of this world. The young gents donned tuxedos and luxurious designer suits.
Although some of them were without partners, they were still thrilled by the occasion. Millicent Mathake, one of the pupils, told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that the ball would be remembered for the rest of her life.
“I never thought this day would be so special to me, I like the lodge, the catering and the music as well. Pity that we will never have the chance to gather like this again as we will be at different tertiary institutions.”
Principal of the school Mr Jacob Mushwana said his school’s matric dance was a success.
“The aim is for them to create friendships and to have fun. We wanted them to experience the wildlife and breezes of Jorge resort. As a school, we always aim high, we hope to see them excel at their studies as they did today with their outfits,” he quipped.
The teachers reminded the learners that in less than two week’s time, the atmosphere would be different as they would be sitting for their first exam paper.
The school also invited motivational speakers who guided the learners with tips on preparing for the exams. The learners vowed to do well.
