Modikwa business leader enjoy breakfast with local entrepreneurs

ONVERWACHT- In promoting the Local Procurement Policy (LPP) and uplifting local entrepreneurs Modikwa platinum mine invited business owners from local communities to have a business breakfast with the acting business leader Mr. Tumi Molapo.
The gathering was organised at the mine’s HRD Lapa on October 21 and was attended by Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM) staff, traditional leaders, community structures, (Hwashi Difagate Trust and Section 21 companies) business owners from local communities.
The crux of the breakfast was to look at ways that will help in the development of local business and also on issues of feedback on local procurement policy.
Acting general manager (business leader) of the mine, Mr Tumi Molapo, told the participants that the mine strives to develop locals in its neighbouring communities.
Molapo stressed how the mine tries to uplift the lives of the locals by giving them business opportunities to create more jobs for the host communities and create socio-economic development within these communities.
“The mine has spent 100 million thus far on local businesses that renders services like cleaning, security, ore haulage, vamping services, waste management engineering repairs etc. All the business are owned by locals.
“We aim to spend much more in helping the seven communities surrounding Modikwa. We are indeed making progress in local community development. Businesses like Joxicom, Big O trading and Phothoma security services employ many locals.

Molapo added that such sessions would be held more often in order to inform communities and to provide feedback and also track progress in development programmes. Modikwa also asked for a successful partnership with their stakeholders.
The mine also allowed entrepreneurs who did business with Modikwa to share their successes with the guests.
Mr Moses Makwana, manager of the Khulong Ya Hwashi Company, reiterated that the mine rescued the local villages from abject poverty. He encouraged upcoming business owners to look for business opportunities at the mine.
GTM mayor Mr Ralepane Mammekwa was represented by Mr Emmanuel Makgoga, also from the mayor’s office.
Makgoga thanked Modikwa for assisting in improving the lives of people of Tubatse, “Without Modikwa our lives would still be stagnant, the mine helped in revamping roads and building of clinics. The government cannot win the battle alone; we wish the mine can continue to enrich the lives of our people.
The mine also revealed business opportunities locals can tender for, this included short crete and long anchors and the supply of tools, hoses, fittings and valves, belt fasteners, scaffolding services, steel piping, fittings accessories, general electric items and many more. After the meeting, the guests enjoyed a delicious breakfast.
