TSB truck driver charged for possession of half a million rands worth of dagga
The accused, Gebhuza Ngwenya, was charged with dealing in dagga after the search-and-seizure process had been conducted on a TSB truck by police.
MALALANE – A drug dealer was sentenced to R15 000 or 15 months’ imprisonment for possession of half a million rands worth of dagga. The accused, Gebhuza Ngwenya (54), was charged with dealing in dagga after the search-and-seizure process had been conducted on a TSB truck by police.
He was arrested after they discovered 14 bags of compressed dagga on top of a sugar load in the truck. Ngwenya was reportedly on his way to make a delivery in Johannesburg.
TSB denied any involvement and said the truck was loaded on Sunday September 7 at 22:30 and left the premises soon thereafter. “The dagga was loaded post-dispatch as all trucks go through the security checks at the exit gate,” said TSB spokesman Vusi Khoza at the time.
Local SAPS spokesman Sgt Bheki Nkosi reported that they received an anonymous tip-off that lead to the arrest of the perpetrator.
“The truck was pulled off after police had received an anonymous tip-off that a large TSB truck was allegedly pulling two trailers loaded with 14 bags of compressed dagga,” Nkosi said. They immediately set up a roadblock on the N4 east, near town. The truck was identified and the driver instructed to go to the police station.
“It was fully loaded with bags of sugar. Upon the police search-and-seizure process they discovered the dagga placed on top of the load. The bags weighed in at 340kg in total with anestimated street value of R510 000,” said Nkosi. Khoza was not available for further comment on the accused’s penalty or on current measures in place to prevent such incidents in future.
