Young line dancer represents Mpumalanga in nations
Charné van Emmenis has qualified for provincial colours and was in the top eight during the nationals.
LYDENBURG- A local young cardiovascular patient and line dancer represented Mpumalanga in the nationals during the South African Country and Western Dancing Championships in Kroonstad in the Free State.
Charné van Emmenis has qualified for provincial colours and was in the top eight during the nationals.
This 12-year-old, who is a pupil at Laerskool Lydenburg, was told that she would not be able to participate in any sporting activities due to her heart condition, but line dancing has given her the chance to be an active young girl.
Charné started participating in line dance two months ago. She attends private classes and has a coach. Rika van Emmenis, mother of the young dancer, said she was very happy when her daughter managed to find something she could do.
“She has a heart problem, and cannot participate in sports like other kids and but she has found something that she can enjoy,” she said.
Van Emmenis added she was proud of her daughter and believed she would go much further in this discipline. “I am so glad that she made it to the nationals in just a couple of months,” she added.
“I am so happy to know that I represented my province and I look forward to my next performance,” said Charné.
Cardiovascular disease (also called heart disease) is a class of diseases that involve the heart, the blood vessels (arteries, capillaries, and veins) or both.
The term “heart disease” is often used interchangeably with the term “cardiovascular disease”.
Heart disease describes a range of conditions that affect your heart. Diseases under this umbrella include blood-vessel diseases, such as coronary artery disease, heart rhythm problems (arrhythmia) and heart defects you’re born with (congenital heart defects), among others.
