Christmas comes early for learners in the form of Santa Shoeboxes

This served as an early Christmas for the pupils who could hardly contain their excitement when they opened their boxes.

LYDENBURG – Learners were filled with joy when they were presented with Santa Shoeboxes last week. This served as an early Christmas for the pupils who could hardly contain their excitement when they opened their boxes.

The coordinators of Lydenburg Santa Shoebox, Hilda Ferreira and Elize Swart, visited the schools to hand over the gifts. Marambane Primary School, Lydenrust Farm School and Enkeldoorn School are three schools in Lydenburg which received gifts.

The Santa Shoebox Project coordinates the donation, collection and distribution of personalised gifts at Christmas time to underprivileged children across South Africa and Namibia. Each box was filled with clothes, stationery, toys and sweets as a Christmas gift.

Some of the parents were there to witness their children receive their gifts. Phumzile Namane, a mother said she was so glad that her daughter, Lwandie Namane was among the fortunate kids to receive a gift. “I am overwhelmed by this and the knowing that at the beginning of the year I will not have to buy my daughter stationery since she has received brand-new items today.”

“I really don’t know how we could ever thank them for what they are doing for our children,” she added.

Amamnda Sekwane, one of the learners, said she was happy to receive such beautiful presents and she would keep everything safe. The campaign managed to give gifts to 318 kids.

“We would like to thank the volunteers who helped us throughout our project and we appreciate each and every donor who made a gift to make a difference in the lives of the children,” said Ferreira.
