Trophies, medals and book prizes were handed out to pupils of Accelerated Academy during the school’s annual prize-giving. It was held at Church Unlimited White River and parents and family members came to support the hard-working children.
Attendees were welcomed by the school principal, Ms Colleen Kotze, and the pupils performed the brand-new school song for the first time, which was met with applause.
The pupils were inspired to work hard during a speech by guest speaker Norton Oosthuis, a representative of Accelerated Christian Education (ACE). He congratulated the school on their new name (previously known as Manthano Christian School) and had the crowd in stitches with his quirky tales of problems he had in school. He told the audience about how his performance improved when he started the ACE curriculum and said he ended up doing well at university as he had a good foundation thanks to ACE. “It keeps you grounded in Biblical faith and helps to build character,” he remarked. He entertained the children with impressions of the different roles of staff members and encouraged them to stay focused, be honest and work hard to improve.
The prize-giving commenced with pupils each receiving a book prize for good character traits shown during the year, as well as achievements in extra-curricular activities like swimming and gymnastics. The grade R and -one pupils then received their certificates to signify that they had graduated from their respective grades.
Trophies were handed out for academic balance, best progress, art, unconditional service and best sport pupil.
The grade 12 pupils who were expected to finish their school in the next six months of next year received a framed certificate with all their achievements and bade everyone farewell.
At the end of the night, pupils, family members and teachers had the opportunity to socialise and enjoy delicious treats.
