Saturday’s Kiepersol farm attack – robbery case under investigation

An elderly man in a wheelchair and a baby was attacked along with the baby's parents in a farm attack on Saturday night. Five suspects are still at large.

HAZYVIEW – A case of robbery is under investigation after a farm attack shocked the Kiepersol community over the weekend.

According to Brig Selvy Mohlala, spokesman for the Mpumalanga SAPS, no arrests have been made after five men attacked a family of three on a farm in Kiepersol on Saturday.

Mr Bernhard Bekker (36), Ms Monique Lange (34) and their 13-month-old son, Armand, were visiting Monique’s father,  Mr Johan Lange, on his farm when men overpowered them late Saturday night.  After assaulting Bekker and Lange, they pushed Monique’s father, who is wheelchair-bound, to the farmhouse’s safe where they forced him to unlock it.  Armand has a kidney illness as well as Pierre Robin Syndrome, according to a post made by Ms Lange of Facebook.

According to Mohlala, the robbers stole four firearms and ammunition as well as a laptop and bank cards after which they fled in one of the victims’ vehicle.  “The elderly man was pushed from his wheelchair onto the floor. It was a very traumatic experience for him,” Mohlala said.

Hi-Tech Security’s Mr Rudi van Niekerk has confirmed the assault of the three adults but says no-one has been admitted to hospital.  The baby did not sustain any injuries.  “A Nissan that might be the stolen vehicle has been recovered and taken to Masoyi SAPS,”  Van Niekerk said.  This however has yet to be confirmed by the SAPS.
