Councillor holds Christmas party
An overwhelmed Harriet Manyisa, one of the beneficiaries said, “I am very happy that God sent a Good Samaritan to give us food parcels and other necessities. As a family we are confronted with abject poverty and daily our lives are a misery.”

The festive season is a time for family and friends to unite and to give to those in need.
This is why Umjindi Municipality speaker Cllr Vusi Mkhatshwa upheld the tradition of an annual party, in aid of orphans and destitute people.
Mkhatshwa together with his constituency, including Umjindi ANC member of parliament, Derrick Mnguni, spent time distributing food parcels and other necessities as well as bonding with children of Emjindini.
The event took place at KaMhola High School in Emjindini on December 24. A cow had also been slaughtered for this purpose and many community members joined the feast.
Speaking at the event, Mkhatshwa said the ANC was committed to fight poverty. “We will go out of our way to ensure that each and every family will always have a merry and joyful Christmas. This gesture will go a long way in restoring the dignity of families.”
He also called upon those in attendance, which included elders, not to be misled by mushrooming political parties.
“Only Jesus spoke and things happened. Now the ANC led government is being attacked by those wearing red berets. They promise you everything but they can’t reveal where the money would come from to keep their promises. The ANC led government has been in power for 20 years and in this period of time we have seen grannies receiving pension grants, mothers receiving social grants, RDP houses being built and education provided for free. Don’t be misled by people who have no direction,” said Mkhatshwa.
Traditional singers including Bhungasizwe Choir entertained the crowd. An overwhelmed Harriet Manyisa, one of the beneficiaries said, “I am very happy that God sent a Good Samaritan to give us food parcels and other necessities. As a family we are confronted with abject poverty and daily our lives are a misery.”
Over 100 families, identified by the local committee members, benefited from the 2014 Christmas party, which also saw elderly being provided with blankets.
The local business people donated the food parcels on Mkhatswa’s request.
