DRIEKOP – The man who shocked locals by brutally stabbing a Chinese businesswoman on January 2, briefly appeared in the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court last Thursday on charges of murder and robbery.
Mr Thabiso Makwana (27) of Gowe Village allegedly robbed and stabbed her with an unknown sharp object. At the time of the attack, the woman was alone in her tuck shop.
According to the spokesman for Mecklenburg police, Const Elias Setati, the victim succumbed to her injuries later that day at Dilokong Hospital.
“Makwana fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and a lot of airtime vouchers,” Setati said. The case was postponed to January 15 for formal bail application.
Meanwhile the police in Jane Furse arrested a 46-year-old man for allegedly raping his niece at Mashishing Village on January 6. According to Const Thapelo Lesufi, the suspect raped the 12-year-old on several occasions but not all the incidents were reported, as it was rumoured that the family had attempted to solve the matter themselves.
Lesufi alleged that the last rape incident took place on December 12, with the suspect being caught red-handed. Lesufi urged the public especially women and children to report any criminal incidents of abuse and rape and not to negotiate with them. The suspect will appear in the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on January 16.
