Grade eights embark on exciting journey

Accompanied by piano and guitar, they made their voices heard as they sang their hearts out in front of the headmaster, teachers, heads and the school's learners.

MBOMBELA – Penryn College officially inaugurated 88 grade eight pupils as these new faces at the school embarked on another chapter in their lives.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the chapel as the grade eights made their way to the floor while the rest of the school eagerly waited for proceedings to begin.

Headmaster, Mr Chris Erasmus, greeted the school and welcomed the class of 2019 before these learners sang the song they had practised the entire week.

Accompanied by piano and guitar, they made their voices heard as they sang their hearts out in front of the headmaster, teachers, heads and the school’s learners.

Head girl for 2015, Sabine Scholle, read a poem “One in Seven” which reflected the importance and privilege of receiving an education. This was followed by a moment of silence as the learners reflected on the poem’s powerful motivational message.

Erasmus mentioned that this ceremony represented a new journey to adulthood as well as a new phase in the parent-and-child relationship.

“Grade eights, you are no longer children, you are well on your way to adulthood. Thank you for affording us at Penryn this opportunity of being part of this significant journey,” he said.

Head boy, Jordan Chiyoka, led the prayer for the grade eights with head of SRC, Andile Madonko, also giving a word of thanks.

“May we continue to have a positive impact on the lives of our pupils and may we maintain an atmosphere in our classrooms in which these young adults can grow to their full potential,” Madonko added.

The chaplain, Mike Stone, concluded the ceremony with one final prayer as the new learners were inducted into the college and

its ethos.
