What is crimen injuria?

On Friday, Mr André Laubscher appeared in court where he was charged with crimen injuria. Lowvelder gives a brief explanation of the charge.

MBOMBELA – Lowvelder reported that Mr André Laubscher, a well-known member of the local rugby community, was arrested at the Bavaria Guesthouse on Thursday morning.  He appeared in court on Friday on charges of theft, intimidation and crimen injuria.

What is crimen injuria?

In South African law, it is described as the unlawful, intentional and serious impairment of another person’s dignity.

This crime may present itself in many different forms.  Examples of crimen iniuria include road rage, stalking and verbal abuse.

It is often coupled with other crimes such as assault or intimidation.
