LYDENBURG – A quadriplegic author, Andries Botes, also known as Barry Botes, signed his book on Saturday at PNA at The Heads Shopping Centre. The atmosphere was lively with people stopping by to meet him, asking questions about his book and also taking pictures.
With the help of sticky keys to type, Botes who had been shot 20 years ago and lost total use of his limbs and torso, published his first book last year titled, The Timbavati Secrets. It is a unique adventure and dark comedy about a small tribe living in Southern Africa known as the Pedi (Bapedi) and also about mysterious events such as light-aircraft crashes which occur in a small area called the Timbavati half-moon.
According to Botes he believed that the launch was the beginning of great things for his book. “I know that my book is going places, I see it when I receive phone calls from people overseas, asking me where they can buy a copy.”
“Today I met many people and they asked me a lot of questions about my book. We sold some copies and I signed each one,” he added. “I would like to thank the community and PNA for the support.”
