MASHISHING – Two pensioners were assaulted and robbed of their belongings after a bogus pastor broke into their house in the early hours of Sunday.
The victims, disabled Ms Maria Mnisi (84) and her daughter Anna Mnisi (69), told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that the intruder knocked at the door of their house at about 02:00 on Sunday March 1 and told them he wanted to pray for them. They refused to let him in.
According to the mother he then used a knife to gain access. “When he entered the house he started kicking and hitting me without saying anything. I could not see him because it was dark and we do not have electricity,” she said.
The daughter ran to the bedroom and locked herself inside while the intruder continued hitting her mother. The suspect fled with their money and a sound system. “I believe that the intruder is a person who knows us and that we are staying alone in the house,” Anna said.
“I am scared that he might come again and I am lucky he did not rape me. I am too old and I am cripple, I cannot walk or do anything for myself,” the mother said.
A case of assault and robbery has been opened at the Mashishing SAPS but no suspect have yet been arrested.
The Steelburger/Lydenburg News contacted Capt Mabokalake Mashabela, communications officer of the SAPS, but he could not confirm the incident.
