He got more than he bargained for when he filled up his tank

He was the only person in the Lowveld to win the national competition.

When Vicky Shongwe pulled in at the Brent Oil filling station on the N4, he only wanted to fill up his car’s tank and have it washed. However, fate had bigger plans for him and he scored a 44-inch LED television out of the deal.

Brent Oil hosted a national competition in which 10 Samsung LED TVs could be won. All contestants had to do, was to fill up their tanks, open a packet with scooby wire and instructions inside, and create a figure from the wire. They then had to take a picture of their creation and send it to Brent Oil’s head office.

“I made a car, but it looks more like a bakkie, and a human being,” Shongwe said. “I never thought I would win anything. In fact, when I received the call to inform me that I had won, I thought someone was playing a trick on me!”

Shongwe, a resident from White River, said he only entered for fun while his car was being washed. “I didn’t enter with the intention of winning.”
