
They requested that their case be postponed in the Nelspruit Regional Court on March 18. Magistrate Mr Willie Wilkens granted the postponement and warned the men to return to court on April 14. A reliable source confirmed that their conflicting versions of the day’s events make incriminating each other highly probable. “The interested of justice was taken into account when the postponement was considered and granted,” Senior State Advocate Ms Isabet Erwee confirmed.
White River Post previously reported that the two suspects (aged 21 and 27) were arrested on October 20 last year after Strydom was overpowered and assaulted in her house on October 11. It was reported that her grandson had gone to visit her two days after the alleged assault at 11:30, as relatives had not heard from her for two days and became worried. It was then discovered that she had been attacked. Strydom was found on her bed in a terrible condition after having been brutally assaulted. She was rushed to hospital and the incident was reported to the police, who arrested the suspects in Mgcoboneni Trust in Masoyi.
They appeared in court on October 21 and were charged with attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
