Photography club members get snapping

Longtom Photography Club members showed flashes of genius at their meeting on Monday night at the Hervormde Kerk.

LYDENBURG – Longtom Photography Club members showed flashes of genius at their meeting on Monday night at the Hervormde Kerk. The club meets every second Monday of the month.

According to Heather Aspeling, club secretary, members meet to learn new things, share ideas and mingle.

“Every month we have a new topic that we focus on and we choose the best photos,” she said.

“The winner of the set-subject section gets a floating trophy and keeps it for a month,” she explained.

“The winner for April was Peet Gerber, for his sunset and plane photograph. Jan van der Westhuizen was the winner for the set-subject section. He photographed an elephant. The brief was to submit a before-and-after photograph,” she explained.

According to Nick van Rensburg, a member of the club, it is a good environment for young people to sharpen their photography skills.

“Young people should consider joining the club because they will learn new and interesting things. Recently I noticed a few who joined us, although I wish the number would increase,” he said.
