Locals share in songstress’ journey

LYDENBURG – Record-breaking singer-songwriter, Natalie Chapman, wowed locals during her 90-days, 90-towns, and 180- gigs show on Tuesday night at the Jam Jar Restaurant.
Residents became part of history as they were part of day 77 of Natalie’s #90Days campaign.
“My main aim is to give a voice to survivors of violent and sexual crimes and raise money for the Epic Foundation,” she explained.
“I would like to reach one person in each town, to either encourage them to speak out about their experiences in order to find healing and also to motivate and mobilise every day. I hope that as Africans we can get involved in helping women, men and children who have suffered any such ordeal in their lives,” she said.
This is her second journey of 90 days across South Africa. “My last tour was last year in January. In April, I decided to do the second one after I saw the impact the first one had, I received a good feedback from the public,” she said.
For 2015 she decided to add more shows to the 90-day journey across the country. “For 2015 I am doing 180 shows in 90 consecutive days and in 90 towns. I would like to do a different record. I will be adding Zambia, Namibia and Lesotho to my schedule, so that I can spread the message to new territories,” she said.
Chapman completed what was considered by many to be an impossible task last year when she did 90 performances in
90 consecutive days in 90 different towns. “I covered over 13 500 kilometres across South Africa and reached thousands of people with my message of hope, motivation and music,” she added.
In May 2014 she was awarded a Lead SA Hero Award for her efforts. Aqua Terra Guest House sponsored Chapman during her visit in Lydenburg. Charlene Coetzee, the owner of the guest house, said she saw an opportunity for the community to be part of the record and she grabbed it.
“I saw an update by Chapman online and I then contacted her,” she said. “I am so happy that finally exciting things are happening in our area.
The community normally says nothing ever really happens in our town and I am glad that I played a role in making sure that they have fun,” she said. “I would like to say thank the community for supporting her in her mission by attending the event,” said Coetzee.
During her visit in Lydenburg, Chapman visited Enkeldoring Primary School on Wednesday April 15 to entertain learners.
