Three men were arrested by Badplaas police officers after they were found driving a suspected stolen bus.
According to Const Cynthia Dhlamini, Badplaas police spokesman, the bus was reported stolen in the North West province.
“Our police received information from their counterpart in Loate Police Station in North West that bus had reportedly been stolen. The said its tracker indicated that it was moving in the direction of Badplaas,” said Dhlamini.
She said upon receiving the information, two constables – Kenneth Kgopola and Stone Dikotope went to conduct a search.
“While patrolling near a filling station in Badplaas, the officers spotted a bus fitting the description with a registration number WKY 624 GP. It appears the suspects were refuelling it,” said Dhlamini.
Three suspects, who were found on board, were arrested on the spot. They appeared in the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on Monday. At the time of going to print, their verdict was still unknown.
The bus belongs to North West Starline, which is a parastatal company of the provincial government.
Police suspect the men were en route to smuggle the bus in Mozambique.
Meanwhile, the Elukwatini station commander, Capt Sozabile Sibiya thanked the police officials for their work.
