The strike at the citrus factory near Suikerland School, which is now in it’s second week, does not seem as if it is going to be resolved soon. Strikers hold on to their demands of a 10% pay rise, whilst management at Onderberg Vrugte Verwerking is offering 8%. during the past week, the offer was raised to 9%, but this has allegedly been taken off the table. Corridor Gazette could not verify the details as at time of posting, it has not been possible to contact management.
On Wednesday, May 13, a guesthouse visitor suffered R34 000 damage to his vehicle. An update will be posted once more information has been obtained.
The public has been phoning Corridor Gazette to claim local SAPS inability to control the strike.
