Mbombela working to protect cables

For about six months the city’s residents have had to endure reduced lanes on the R40 between the show grounds and Riverside Industrial Park due to works on the island in the middle of the road, and they might have to endure it a little bit longer.

“The work we are doing on the R40 is part of what we call Revenue Protection (RP) and for that reason, we are not at liberty to reveal the measures we have taken to curb cable theft,” says municipal spokesman Mr Joseph Ngala. “In other areas we have deployed 24-hour security. However, certain areas are not feasible for security guards, hence we employ other tactics which we won’t share with the public as it jeopardises the very efforts of the fight against cable theft.”
Ngala also stated that it is difficult to determine exactly when the project will be completed due to the complexity of the task.
